Facial Makeover
Why opt for a Facial Makeover?
By Facial Makeover or Total Facial Reconstruction, we refer to the performance of multiple surgeries on the area of the face during the same operative session. It has the advantage of a single recovery time and the patient does not have to be submitted to anesthesia a second time. If you decide to proceed with a combination of multiple surgeries, we will consult you on which surgeries would improve your appearance, always based on your needs and requirements. Total Facial Reconstruction is completely safe and practical, however, it is important for the patient to be aware that as the number of surgeries increases, so does the likelihood of postoperative complications.
The operation in short
It is now very common to perform blepharoplasty in combination with a face and neck correction operation (Facelift, Necklift). This minimizes the recovery time for the patient, as the swelling from both operations goes away at the same time. An eyebrow lift can be performed during the same surgery, but patients should be aware that there will be extra swelling in the facial area and the recovery period will be longer. Moreover, a Facelift can be performed in combination with a body cosmetic surgery (eg breast augmentation or abdominoplasty), the details of which can be discussed during your visit.
Rhinoplasty can also be performed at the same time as several other cosmetic surgeries on the face or body. An exception for our clinic is the combination of Rhinoplasty with Lower Eyelid Blepharoplasty or with a Facelift, as the swelling that is created postoperatively is so intense that it can create several problems. However, it can be combined with an Upper Eyelid Blepharoplasty only increasing the patient’s recovery time.
Is the Combination of Multiple Surgeries the Right Choice for You?
During your visit to our clinic, we will assess whether this combination of surgeries is suitable for you. Multiple cosmetic surgeries are performed only when it is certain that one surgery will not affect the outcome of the other and that it will be completely safe for the patient. Some patients, as for instance smokers, overweight patients, and those with a history of vascular thrombosis, have a higher risk of complications, which does not make them suitable for long-term surgery. In this case, surgeries must be performed in two separate sessions.
Medication
In our clinic, a complete medical history is always taken before each surgery. As a precaution, over-the-counter medicines or herbal products should not be taken before and for 3 days after surgery. It is also considered necessary to avoid taking non-steroid, anti-inflammatory drugs such as aspirin (salospir), ibuprofen (Nurofen), diclofenac, and any other anticoagulant or antiplatelet drug.
Smoking
If you are a smoker you should try to stop smoking for at least 1 week before and 1 week after the surgery as this will dramatically reduce the chances of postoperative complications and help achieve the best possible result.
Recovery from Facial Makeover
Your recovery time will depend on the surgeries you will undergo. For further information, you can refer to each separate surgery section, however, during your visit will be happy to answer all your questions.
Possible Complications from Facial Makeover
In longer surgeries, there is an increased risk of postoperative complications, for instance, a respiratory infection, hematoma, or multiple trauma surfaces at the same time. Complications such as deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolism are particularly rare in individual surgeries, but can occur in longer surgeries and, when they do occur, can be quite serious. It is very important to consider these risks before proceeding with combining cosmetic surgeries.
