Botulinum Toxin
Why opt for a treatment using Botulinum toxin
Botulinum toxin can dramatically improve wrinkles in the glabella and forehead, also known as expression wrinkles, but also in the area around the eyes (“crow’s feet”), neck and mouth (smoker’s lines). In addition to eliminating wrinkles, we can also achieve a natural-looking eyebrow lift, to give a more youthful appearance and reduce hypertrophy of the masseter muscle, so that the face becomes V-shaped. Keep in mind that Botulinum toxin has been approved by the FDA for the treatment of axillary hyperhidrosis. Botulinum toxin has been used in the field of medicine for over thirty years with absolute safety and without the slightest problem. Although it is described as a “toxin” and thus may frighten patients, it is not at all toxic to humans; it is a fully approved product by the National Organization for Medicines and is used worldwide in all developed countries and is fully certified for the treatment of expression wrinkle.
Wrinkles on the forehead and glabellar lines, also known as “expression wrinkles”, as well as around the eyes (crow’s feet), neck and mouth, can be improved by applying Injectable Wrinkle Treatment. In addition to reducing wrinkles, we can change the shape of the eyebrows, by applying selective injections so that the eyebrow can appear in a higher position and more youthful.
Injectable Wrinkle Treatment is based on Botulinum Toxin type A which relaxes the muscles and improves the appearance of wrinkles. Botulinum toxin type A has been used in the field of medicine for over thirty years with absolute safety and without the slightest problem. Although it is described as a “toxin” and thus may frighten patients, it is not at all toxic to humans; it is a fully approved product by the National Organization for Medicines and is used worldwide in all developed countries and is fully certified for the treatment of expression wrinkle.
It is also an excellent form of treatment for excessive sweating (Hyperhidrosis) both in the axilla and in the palms. In some cases, it also seems to be extremely effective in treating migraines, relieving the spasm of the muscles that trap and strangle the sensory nerves that pass through them.
The treatment in brief
The treatment involves injecting very small amounts of Botulinum toxin into areas of the face that have been marked before the treatment based on the requirements of each patient. The injection is made into the skin with very small and thin needles, after the application of a local anesthetic ointment.
After treatment, patients are instructed to apply certain exercises to ensure that the toxin is fully diffused into the muscles and is as effective as possible. You should also avoid for three days after treatment anything that may raise the temperature in the infused areas (hairdryer, hot shower, gym), as this can inactivate the toxin and make its action last much less than expected. The action of the toxin begins after about two to three days and is maximized after fifteen days. Its duration may be slightly shorter in the first infusions and longer in subsequent infusions. The skin around the injection site may appear slightly red for the first twenty minutes, but then it will return to normal. Rarely, and especially in the area around the eyes (“crow’s feet”), small bruises may appear in the first hours after application.
Possible complications from the injection of Botulinum toxin
The use of botulinum toxin is a routine injectable treatment and is completely successful for the vast majority of our patients, which is a result of the large number of cases that doctors have in their belt. However, as with any injectable treatment, it is very important to understand that there is a possibility of complications. Possible complications are listed below:
Blepharoptosis or drooping of the eyelid
In our clinic, the risk of this complication is minimized, thanks to the very good knowledge of the anatomy of the periocular area and by avoiding the injection of the drug in the area of the upper eyelid, which could paralyze the muscles that lift it. Also, we avoid injecting too much into the forehead area, thus preventing its paralysis and, consequently, the change and drooping of the position of the eyebrows.
Minor asymmetry
Although the same infusion of units will be applied to both sides of the face, there is a small chance that it will have a greater effect on one side of the face than on the other.
Bruising
Bruising is rare; if it occurs, bruises are usually small and fade away within a few days.
Allergic reactions
Allergic reactions are extremely rare.
